Variacs are transformers where part or all of the primary winding is also used as the secondary winding and are under the influence of the same magnetic field.
Normal transformers have two separate windings: primary and secondary. Autotransformers, however, have only one winding. This winding functions as both the primary and secondary winding. Since voltage conversion is done through this single winding, a second winding is not needed. Since the number of windings has been reduced to one, leakage reactances have decreased.
Different voltage values can be obtained from autotransformers by bringing out numerous terminals (or with a slider). In this respect, autotransformers can be used like a potentiometer. We have solutions in 1 kVA, 1.5 kVA, 2 kVA, 2.5 kVA, 3.5 kVA, 4.5 kVA, 6.5 kVA, 7.5 kVA, 10 kVA, 12.5 kVA and 15 kVA power ratings. In addition, high-power variac demands can be met by parallel configuration.
